The search for staff for Shanghai has begun!

2009-02-09

The job profiles for 180 hosts and hostesses, three chief hosts/hostesses, two persons to manage VIP visits, 20 assistants for pavilion management, cultural events, press and VIP relations, eight drivers and three caretakers were posted on the German Pavilion website at www.expo2010-deutschland.de/informieren/jobs on 2 February 2009.

People interested in working at the German Pavilion in Shanghai should feel at ease communicating in a foreign language and engaging with strangers. They should be friendly, communicative, good organisers and improvisers, flexible, able to work under pressure, reliable, good team players, service-oriented and, last but not least, have a smart appearance and a confident manner. But it is also absolutely essential that they have a good or very good command of Chinese and German. Knowledge of English is also desirable.

All hosts and hostesses in the German Pavilion will have to perform the following tasks:

  • Provide information about the German Pavilion, EXPO 2010 Shanghai and about Germany and China
  • Explain the exhibits
  • Perform queue-management and visitor-management tasks
  • Perform general support tasks to ensure the smooth running of the pavilion

Plus, where required:

  • Give tours of the German Pavilion and the EXPO site
  • Look after delegations (outside Shanghai too)

Shared accommodation and travel to and from the EXPO (one return journey) will be paid for by the German Pavilion. Each member of staff will be equipped with a Pavilion uniform. In addition, they will be paid between 1,200 and 1,500 euros (gross) per month. Working hours and days off will be organised in the form of a shift roster. There will be two shifts, one beginning in the morning and one in the afternoon. Of course, the Pavilion will also be open on the weekends - from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. for 184 days. Staff must be available throughout the entire duration of the EXPO, including a training phase that will last several weeks. Work at the EXPO will commence on 1 May 2010 and finish on 31 October 2010. Staff contracts, which will also include the training for the German Pavilion, will start around the middle of March 2010.

The deadline for applications is 30 April 2009. Applications can be made online using the application form at www.expo2010-deutschland.de/informieren/jobs.
