At this weekend’s dress rehearsal for EXPO 2010, more than 20,000 visitors toured “balancity” on Saturday alone. “Thank you, I’m really impressed“, remarked a Chinese guest after watching the show at the Energy Source. The acoustically controlled sphere is the high point awaiting guests at the end of their tour through the German Pavilion. One week before the official opening of the World Exhibition in Shanghai, full operations were tested on Saturday. This gave organisers a chance to check the infrastructure and discover any problems to be addressed before starting up regular operations.
“balancity“ took advantage of this opportunity by deploying its entire staff under realistic conditions and checking for weak spots. “Overall, we are extremely satisfied. A few minor complications came up, which is completely normal. That’s just what a test run is for – to make sure we’re thoroughly prepared for 1 May and the coming six months“, said Press Officer Marion Conrady.
While a few construction sites are still to be seen here and there on the Pudong exhibition grounds, and people are busy everywhere putting on the final touches, the German Pavilion is as good as finished. Inside, a few technical details will be optimised shortly before the opening and the decoration work completed. On Sunday, the EXPO Park opened its doors to 500,000 visitors.
