Sphere has arrived at the German Pavilion

2010-03-04

Less than 60 days remain until the EXPO commences and the Energy Source is steadily taking shape: On Tuesday, the highly sensible technology of the sphere destined to become the core piece of the Energy Source Show has finally arrived on the construction site. From above, through an opening in the ceiling, a 230 ton construction crane with its 50 meter arm let down the necessary parts for the suspension and the motor into the Energy Source. The drive technology has been disassembled into five individual parts beforehand and was then gradually let down into the cone-shaped room. Just the engine platform itself weights 1.2 tons.

The sphere was already shipped by air cargo from Stuttgart to Shanghai in January 2010.
Today, facing an already progressed construction state, the right time for assembling the highly delicate prototype has finally come - as the sphere is extremely sensitive to dust and dirt. Through an assembly set technique, the 12 outer sphere segments are being mounted like orange peels, on which the LED-plates have been fixed. By the beginning of the following week, the highlight of the German Pavilion will be ready to start its testing.
